I feel that encouraging students and pushing them to their full potential is so important. Some of the time, students aren't aware of what they are capable of and what they can achieve in their learning and I feel that paying attention to their strengths and areas of improvement allows them to recognise their potential. I am very passionate about…

Making sure a person has a full understanding of a subject is very important. At school the content is memorised instead of understood, which leads to weak foundation. As a tutor, it is important that your student comprehends all aspects if the subject and is confident in applying their knowledge and skills I am patient with the student and am…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student's confidence, create a safe space for learning, and help them develop the tools to become independent learners. It's not just about teaching content, it's about helping them believe in their abilities, overcome self-doubt, and find strategies that actually work for them. A…

I believe effort is the most important thing, regular check ins, solving problems for the student and being able to not only be a tutor but also a friend. Lacking effort to corny especially when I was a tutor made me feel like I wasn’t important and I wasn’t getting my moneys worth. As a tutor I believe I’m able to create a strong connection…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is motivate a student to try their best. A tutor should commend a student when succeeding, and encourage them when they are struggling. I believe the role of the tutor is the prepare the student for assessments and future content, as having a solid base is very important, specifically in maths where future content is built upon what is previously taught. I believe that the two most important things a tutor can provide are a motivation and a path forward for students. A tutor's job is then to simultaneously provide these in a way tailored to their student. Striking that balance is key to ensuring that the student not only understands the material that they've been taught, but also gain skills in…

Inside Hornsby HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Sam worked on adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators and practiced equivalent fractions using visual aids.

For Year 9, Olivia tackled simplifying complex algebraic fractions as well as multiplying and dividing indices, focusing on error correction from past exams.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Liam focused on solving linear equations—making x the subject—and handling algebraic expressions with negatives and fractions to build confidence for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often felt overconfident in maths, skipping double-checks and "not finishing the question," which led to small errors going unnoticed during an exam.

For a Year 11 topic on algebraic manipulation, the tutor noted: "He didn't study the material or attempt questions beforehand," so gaps in understanding slowed progress during sessions.

In Year 4, one student avoided writing out working for division problems, relying too much on mental steps—this made it difficult to catch calculation mistakes.

When homework was incomplete or rushed across several years, concepts like fractions and indices weren't fully retained by the next lesson.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Hornsby Heights recently noticed a Year 10 student who, after weeks of needing hints, completed several challenging algebraic manipulation problems with only minimal help and started laying out his working more clearly than before.

In Year 11, another student showed real initiative by preparing questions ahead of the session on sales commissions and perimeters—something he'd hesitated to do in previous weeks—and engaged actively throughout.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who was initially unsure about using equations began creating and applying them independently during the lesson, finishing by writing out her own equation for a practice question without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

It has been a pleasure working for Ezy Math Tutoring. I've never seen an organisation (for lack of a better word) so dedicated and organised. I came to work for Ezy Math Tutoring because of two reasons: my prior experience with tutoring and my need for a part-time job. I sought to utilise my abilities and help out students who wanted my help. My biggest accomplishment would be to see my students, grow in their studies and become more confident. I was exceedingly happy to be able to have facilitated his academic and personal growth. Ezy Math Tutoring is unlike any other tutoring service in that it really tries to present the highest calibre of tutors and constantly motivate and mould them to become even better tutors. In turn, this represents a higher success rate with students and as such, everyone is satisfied. I would recommend EMT to both fellow tutors and prospective parents/students alike. My time at Ezy Math Tutoring has been great and I wish the company, its tutors and its students well for the future.

I would certainly recommend Ezymath to prospective students. Having a tutor who is close in location and able to work at developing a relationship with each individual student can greatly assist students in discovering how to succeed in maths. I would also strongly recommend Ezymath's professional development activities and CEP modules to other prospective tutors. I have appreciated the important learning lessons within the CEP modules and have applied this to my tutoring and used it to help my students. It has also been fantastic to develop relationships with my students and their parents over the past year and a half. In this time I have seen my students grow personally and academically. One particular grade 7 student I have seen progress from low B's to high A's within the time I have been tutoring him. However, my greatest achievement during the time I have been tutoring is to have helped my two current students to realise just how much hard work they need to put in to do their very best with maths. Both of these students have seen considerable improvements in their results as we have developed habits such as regularly completing revision quizzes, developing key memory pegs & triggers to remember strategies and rules. Once my students discovered that practicing such techniques and putting in so much regular revision time improved their results, they were more motivated and determined to continue putting in such efforts to keep improving their marks.

Tutoring with Ezymaths has been a great experience for me. When I joined two years ago I thought I wouldn't last the first month let alone the next two years. It's amazing how organised the company is and how much help you receive as a new tutor. I joined the company to earn some extra cash and the benefits of learning about teaching were a bonus. Ezymath tutoring is a network of students, teachers and tutors who share information to improve the way we teach our children. Every student has a different way of learning and learns at a different pace. The benefit of gaining a tutor through a company means there is no single mind teaching your child. The collective advice and experience of the tutors within the company allows us to teach your children in the most effective possible manner. I personally have gained great experience to put on my resume and nothing is more pleasing there to see a child improve their education and confidence to push themselves further in life. If you are considering a position at the company or just looking for some extra help for your child you won't find a better class of trained tutors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hornsby Shire Library & Information Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hornsby Heights Public School.
