As someone who has personally experienced anxiety due to academic pressure, I deeply understand how stress can block learning. My own struggles with grades have taught me that the most important role of a tutor is to create a safe, patient space where mistakes are welcomed as part of the process. I focus not just on academic content, but on…

Fostering an environment of growth is key: tutors need to encourage the student to ask questions, set realistic standards and recognise failure as the opportunity to learn. Seeing these mindsets shift within students is extremely rewarding as a teacher. In my experience of tutoring, it is less about showing the student what you know and…

I believe a tutor should always provide a safe learning environment for the students. They should always impart knowledge, skills and also good values for their students. Tutors should always create lesson plans to ensure they address a diversity of students through their teaching as the learning capacities of students can be diverse due to a…

Paying attention on them. A student sometimes have fear and won't ask their doubts. As tutors we must pay attention to them and see what they need. If not the students won't achieve their goals. I am organized, have a good memory and I plan all the lessons with anticipation. My experience have taught me that the student depends on how prepared you…

It definitely has to be creating passion within a student for a subject that they are struggling with. As a newly graduated student, I understand how crushing and demotivating a difficult subject can be. In addition, receiving tutoring in a subject you have no passion for, is terrible for their learning and mental health. Thus I think that the…

One of the most vital things a tutor should do is ensure that he is understood teaching-wise and that he understands his pupils perfectly. One thing that some teachers don't have is empathy for the unique condition of a student. A student's ability to learn can be affected in various ways, like by his surroundings and so on. It is significantly…

I believe the most important thing for a tutor is to listen to and understand their student's weaknesses and strengths. Often I find many people lack personalisation and simply follow the curriculum. The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to listen to them. If you do not have two way communication a lot of details can be lost in translation or misunderstood . The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen and understand. Students who are strugglings with certain subjects might not actually be bad at the subjects but rather they might not have had proper guidance from their teachers or they do not have a strong foundation, or they are just not studying in the right method. Each…

I believe that building a strong teacher-student relationship is the most important thing. Most students who seek for tutoring are either aiming to break their limits, or catch up with others. Both motivation requires significant support from their peers, thus, as a tutor, building a strong TSR can robustly improve students' learning motivation.…

I wish to try my best to identify gaps in learning and provide tailored instruction to the students who are struggling. Local Reviews

Was so easy to book and arrange, the tutor is consistent, reliable and patient. A great fit for my child.
Lisa, Seddon

Inside SeddonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Mia focused on converting denominators to add and subtract fractions, as well as simplifying fractions for clarity.

In Year 9, Ethan practiced solving algebraic equations for x and reviewed strategies for factorising quadratic equations.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ruby worked through the distributive law of surds in algebra and reinforced her understanding by graphing linear lines using different methods.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion was a barrier for one Year 8 student—"not attempted," the note read, which limited progress with dividing and multiplying by factors of ten.

In Year 9 algebra sessions, working out was sometimes kept in students' heads rather than on paper, so key sign errors or steps were missed ("pen to paper" needed).

A senior student brought neither book nor notes to revision, making it harder to practice manipulating equations and use feedback.

One Year 11 learner hesitated to check work after each step; small mistakes went unnoticed until the end, meaning extra time spent fixing avoidable errors.

Recent Achievements

A Seddon tutor noticed that one Year 11 student, after initially struggling with understanding the inflation formula and the difference between purchasing power and current value, began breaking down complex questions independently and set up a personal study log to track his progress—a big shift from needing step-by-step direction.

Another high school student who previously hesitated to ask for help now initiates discussions about challenging algebraic problems and has started keeping organised notes in a dedicated rules book.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who often guessed spelling is now confidently rewriting definitions and reading them aloud after targeted literacy practice during sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Footscray Mechanics' Institute Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Footscray High School - Pilgrim Campus.
